New York Style Coffee Cake

This coffee cake recipe is adapted from one that is used by professional coffee shops around the country. Once you try it, it will become a tradition for your family more often than just at Christmas.

1 ½ cups flour

½ cup sugar

2 ½ teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

1 egg

½ cup milk

2 tablespoons oil

2 teaspoons vanilla

Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl whisk together egg, milk, oil,and vanilla, and fold into dry mixture. Spread into a greased 13x9” pan (cake batter will be thin in pan).

Crumb Topping

2 ½ cups flour

1 cup brown sugar

2 teaspoon cinnamon

1 cup mostly melted and cooled butter

Mix until large crumbs form. Sprinkle over cake batter. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes, then rotate pan and bake for another 10 minutes. When cake is cool dust with powdered sugar.
